A government of the ANC by the ANC by Rebone Masemola

The national elections are coming up again, South
Africans being given the
full power and capacity to choose a party they
deem capable of moving us
forward. When we reflect on the past four years,
there is little left to
appease the taste buds, only unimaginable
bitterness. Jacob’s term was
overshadowed by cases of doom and gloom that
have in many ways affected the
state of the economy, our political climate and
social lives. The leader of
the so called ‘free nation’ (democratic society) has
changed how the rest
of the world perceives us, breeding an unstable
business climate that has
become questionable to international investors. One
protest after the
other, the country has sunk into a black hole. The
people driven into a
state of desperation by poor service delivery,
unemployment, poverty and a
questionable education system. The country has
been let down on countless
occasions by the shower man sworn in to do right
by the people, yet, he
continues to call himself a man of the people. All we
have experienced
during his reign is nothing but disarray; he
continuously disregards the
opinions of the people he claims to Govern. Jacob
and his people have
become the law on their own, thus, the
constitutional law and justice
system does not apply to them. They have at times
attempted to question and
mock our intelligence, insisting on treating us as
though we are a nation
of delusional people who are unable of distinguish
wrong from right. Yet,
they want us to believe we have a say and power to
influence the running of
our own country, forgetting that an unhappy public
makes for a chaotic
political and social space.
In the last four years, the line of communication
between the governed and
the government was cut off; and our life line was
removed from right
underneath us. The founding basis of our
democracy has been disputed, with
a government that is out to serve its own interests
ahead of its followers.
With a leadership that is out to make a quick buck
and enrich their friends
and families, while the rest of us rot in the gutter.
The country of the
people by the people became a country of the ANC
by the ANC for the ANC.
Even at the critical moment when the President got
the chance to change
public opinion regarding his leadership; he chose to
play delusional and
ignorant. Logic does not seem to apply to him; he
continues to believe that
people will remain loyal to him regardless of his
proved incompetence. The
Lass forgets that people can change things for him
at the poll, 2014 is
ushering in a new generation of voters who do not
have personal memories of
apartheid, and they have no emotional attachment
to the ANC which the older
generation has. Young people were born into a
different time with a
distinct political climate; their needs are much
more versatile from those
of their parents. They want tangible results in the
present, a future of
economic stability, not just promises. The youth of
2014 is dancing to a
different drum and singing a different tune from
the past. We are led by a
government that has corrupted our justice system,
decayed from top down.
When do we as a pupil of the land hold our
government accountable, and when
do we say enough is enough and force them to take
responsibility? We have a
duty to ourselves, our struggle heroes and the next
generation, what kind
of country and future are we moulding for our
children? Have we have slowly
become a nation of dormant citizens and Yes Mans,
incapable of changing our
circumstance?
